TYPES OF CURRICULA IN SCHOOL
Different types of curriculum are necessary in all official area. It is the options for implementing the required quality and characteristics of a certain goal of learning.
There are various types of curricula in schools. The first is the recommended curriculum or the memoranda or policy, standards and guidelines that came from government agencies. Next is the written curriculum which includes documents based on the recommended curriculum. They come in the form of course study, syllabi, modules, books, instructional guides among others. Next is the taught curriculum, here, the teacher and the learners will put life the written curriculum. Next is the supported curriculum. It pertains to the support materials that the teacher needs. This includes print materials like books, chart, worksheet and non-print materials like PowerPoint presentation and other electronic illustrations. The fifth one is assessed curriculum. This curriculum is evaluated after it has been taught. It can neither be assessment for learning, assessment as learning or assessment of learning. The penultimate is the learned curriculum. These are measured by tools in assessment, which can indicate the cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes. Learned curriculum also demonstrates higher order and critical thinking and lifelong skills. The last is the hidden or implicit curriculum. This is the unwritten curriculum like peer influence, school environment, media, parental pressures, societal changes, cultural practices, natural calamities are some factors that create hidden curriculum.
As a future teacher, we need to know the different types of curricula to apply the best in teaching. It illustrates the better and improved way of giving and acquiring knowledge. Also, to avoid unequal treatment and produce a conducive environment of learning.
