Multi-Cultural Education

As a teacher we have to be flexible and adoptable in every difference of our students. The teaching profession does not stop in teacher the academic lessons that we have to unload. But accepting them is another factor. We are opposed of building them to become better, educated, knowledgeable and intellectual, however, building their characters is the most important lesson that they may learn from us. This lesson is implemented through the ability of the teacher on how we accept their individualities. Certain issues may arise in connection with learning. We must be aware of what we are doing inside the classroom. The culture and traditions of our students is very significant to them. Whereas we can show respect by giving the attitude choice they deserve. Upon realizing their needs, we are going to imply the classroom situation on which they may not have difficulties in dealing with their classmates and to the teachers as well. If our students felt welcome and accepted, they will also show the same traits that they absorb on which learning can enhance and develop through interaction and communication with no further difficulties that can be confusing to them.

It is essential because every learner has their capabilities of being different, wherein we must show appreciation to their uniqueness for them to learn. We have to know each student that we are to handle to maintain balance and equal treatment that could affect their learning and attitude. If we implement a learning environment where they are treated very well, there will be a big chance and opportunity of learning process. We as a teacher must be capable and reliable in every culture of our students that we may encounter. We have to be knowledgeable and passionate in dealing with the needs of our students towards the teaching learning process.

The first factor for me is the religion of our student. They will have their own views in terms of their religion. Some students may encounter their classmates, or in some cases their teacher that will say something about their perspectives that may cause a great dispute to a particular student. Another factor is the sexism or the gender inequalities that may bring some discrimination. Today, there are some students that are gays or homosexual. Gender discrimination cannot be prevented in this case. Next is the ageism. Some students come to school late because of certain problems. These students are those who are inappropriate in their level in accordance to their age. Self-confidence may lessen by this case that can cause a low performance in the class. Those hindrances can be avoided if we, teacher may be able to manage it not only in the class but also in our community. To set a conducive learning environment, we must initiate a fair, equal and just treatment not only to our students but also to other people that can be a weapon on how to be a role model and educator to them.
